Then I attached the fuel tank brace by lining it up with the original tank strap bolt holes, and clamping using the "enhanced" vice grips that I made. It is very important to line up this brace correctly so that it does not overlap the body mount brace at all! I messed up on this by about 1/16 of an inch, and was unable to spotweld the fuel tank brace to the trunk pan in this area... I was forced to clamp, and plug weld by drilling a small hole in the top piece of sheet metal and filling the small gap between the tank brace and the trunk pan. A little extra time spent lining this brace up would have prevented this problem, and saved me a lot of time drilling/welding/grinding, not to mention it would have looked better in the end.
