Here is a picture of the new trunk pan for the
left-hand side. I fitted it to the car and then took it out and spot
welded on the trunk floor brace. I finally got to use my Miller portable
spot welder. It worked pretty well. It looks much cleaner than
the plug welds that I had to do on the floor pans. Then I derusted
the underside of the trunk pan using this stuff called "Blue Lightning
Rust Remover" to get all the light surface rust off (even new sheet metal
gets rusty when you get fingerprints on it!) Then I used "Blue Lightning
Metal Prep" to etch the metal, and then applied some PPG DP-90 Black Epoxy
primer. After that dried, I masked off the areas where I expect to
weld, and applied a couple coats of Dupli-Color spray-in bedliner coating.
I realized that I won't be able to paint it after it's in, at least not
on the outside edges. I will be able to paint the middle after I
weld in the center section.
